My first full-length book was published in 2016. I also released in 2017 a shortened e-book version comprising updated versions of the first five chapters, in response to demand from the MPhil/MSc students I teach.
This book is about asymmetric “David & Goliath” partnerships in pharmaceutical R&D. It draws upon the partnering experiences and perspectives of more than forty different organisations that I either knew well or had specifically conducted primary research with—thank you to all who contributed! David & Goliath partnerships are bilateral arrangements in which one partner is a small bioscience or academic organisation (David) and the other a large multinational corporation (Goliath). I wrote the book to highlight issues I often encountered with struggling R&D collaborations. And I wanted to help alliance managers on the David side in particular to avoid or mitigate such challenges. Despite this somewhat niche audience, the reaction from industry R&D executives and managers was very positive:
I consider this an absolute ‘must read’ for those working in David companies that have entered or are about to enter in a Goliath partnership. Reading the book will increase your awareness and provide you with a solid basis for a successful partnership with Goliath
Erik Ensing, Director Alliance Management, Genmab. From his book review in the March 2017 issue of R&D Management
I have looked through the book and it is very thoughtful and useful when considering externalising innovation and how to structure activities to get a broader external footprint. A very good job.
Per Falk, Executive Vice President R&D and Chief Science Officer, Ferring Pharmaceuticals
I am reading your book with great pleasure and interest. I think you have found a way to communicate a complex topic in a very clear way which is as up-to-date as you can find nowadays.
