The number of business and scientific collaborations in the bioscience and healthcare sectors is accelerating—collaborations and strategic partnerships are now “normal business”. Nevertheless, each company needs to define and implement the right partnering strategy and collaboration model for its situation and needs.

The performance of many individual collaborations can also be improved through various actions, both before the partnership agreement is signed, and during execution. In particular, there are some unique challenges that need to be addressed in the rapidly expanding number of “David-and-Goliath” partnerships between academia or smaller specialist firms (“David”) and large multi-national corporations (“Goliath”), as highlighted in my book.
